Natacha Mankowski

Natacha Mankowski (1986, France) holds a Master in Architecture from the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris. In 2011, she is the recipient of the Tony Garnier Prize in Urbanism awarded by the Académie Française. For several years, she worked as architect with Jean Nouvel, Dominique Perrault, Anne Demians and Vito Acconci. Natacha practices architecture in the surface. Her work evolves around her ongoing investigation in the immersive qualities of architecture and its practice as an all inclusive experience. By radically liberating her praxis from it’s conventional tools or classical forms of architecture, she creates spaces to return to the very essence of her view as an architect. As an architect and artist, her work revolves around the investigation of spaces and ecosystems. She studies landscapes and architectures to draw attention to their inherent particularities and forgotten potential. Using oil, wax, clay and marble sand in her work, the form of the landscape becomes soft and unpredictable, evoking the power of the elements. Natacha was part of numerous artist residencies such as : Palazzo Monti (IT) 2019, Le Consulat (FR) 2018, Mana Contemporary (NJ) 2016, Watermill center (NY) 2015, Villa Lena (IT) 2015, The Brooklyn Navy Yard (NY) 2015. She has exhibited at DeSchool (NL) 2020, HVW8 (DE) 2020, Everyday Gallery (BE) 2019, Epigraphic Museum (GR) 2018, Bubenberg Gallery (FR) 2018, New day Gallery (DE) 2017, Le coeur (FR) 2016, Souvenirs (DE) 2016. Natacha Mankowski has also collaborated with a range of artists, designers and curators for projects, festivals and site-specific venues such as : Get Lost – Art Route (NL) 2019, ISO (NL) 2019, Design Parade (FR) 2018, St Etienne Design Biennale with L. Jaffuel (FR) 2017, Berghain (DE) 2015 & 2017, Festival of Lights (DE) 2016, Traverse Festival (FR) 2016, Berlin Art Week (DE) 2015, Month of Performance (DE) 2014, Kreuzberg Pavillon (DE) 2014. In 2019, the municipality of Amsterdam commissioned her a public artwork. Since 2015, Natacha Mankowski has been speaking about her work at institutions, such as the Sandberg Institute (NL). She is part of the Taylor Foundation (FR).
