Burgundy, France. Summer 2019. Full of quartz stones: sandstone, granites, porphyries and basalts, the old quarries of the Morvan are numerous. Traveling in the French countryside: Natacha Mankowski explores it: she picks up some of the landscapes, she travels: sand, clay, sandstone powder, flowers ... Once in her studio, she mixes them with her pigments, beeswax, and linseed oil creating a "plasticine" that she uses directly on paper and canvas to re-imagine these landscapes.
For the Clichés Français exhibition, she presents a duo of oils on paper and collaborates with Louch'Atelier, a Burgundian carpenter-cabinetmaker, to create special frames made of different woods from the region: walnut, oak, birch. The landscape of this Burgundy is then contained through a humanoid and sublimated representation but also by the natural elements present in this region: wood, sands and wild flowers.
