Born in the Lorraine region, cradle of ceramic arts, The Manufacture des Emaux de Longwy 1798, was the first ceramic industry created in the eighteenth century. In 1798 the Boch family founds the first ceramic factory. In 1870, the Italian Amedee de Carenza, specialized in enclosed decors, joins the earthenware company and creates a new artistic process: replacing the brass wires, used to delimit colors by the black enamel line. The first Longwy Enamels were born.
In the heart of the 20000 square meters feet composing workshop of the Manifacture, several skilled artisans shelter the secrets of enamel-making. From modeling to casting, from the process of finishing to that of pressing, filling, cooking and cracking, it takes no less than 7 different know-hows to create a single piece. A precision work sometimes requiring up to 100 hours orchestrated by passionate craftsmen, which allows to transform crystal powder into enamels with magical glow.
